What's on YOUR Disney Bucket List?

Each one of the 90 horses on Magic Kingdom’s Prince Charming Regal Carrousel is a beautiful work of art…

… but only ONE of them is designated specifically for Cinderella herself.  Exactly how can you tell which one is hers? There is only one way:

Cinderella’s horse is designated by the golden ribbon on the tail.

You’ve got a challenge here: to find the horse. Yes, there’s the ribbon, but when you see the Carrousel spinning ‘round and ‘round right in front of you, it is surprisingly difficult to find among all the white tails. My best tip is that you shouldn’t look for the bow—instead, look for this:

Find the Fairy Godmother in the panel above the horses (The Carrousel is filled with beautiful artwork depicting memorable scenes from “Cinderella.”) Cinderella’s horse is directly under this picture, the second one in from the outer edge of the round. Isn’t that just like your Fairy Godmother to lead you straight there?

I’ve hoped to ride Cinderella’s horse for some time, but I always had trouble spotting it, or—once I finally found it—could not manage to get it as my horse. Several factors had to come in to play: spotting the horse correctly, understanding where it landed once the Carrousel stopped, and finally, making sure I was faster than all the little princesses fresh from the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique… whom I envy, frankly. If I’m denied my dreamt-of princess makeover because of my age, then I don’t think it’s too much to ask for the horse ;)!

Crowds were light that morning at the Magic Kingdom, so I thought “Today might be The Day.” I made the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel my first stop, and focused on the tails until I found Cinderella’s horse—a quick look up helped me find the Fairy Godmother panel for when the Carrousel stopped. I focused with the intensity of a hawk and did the closest-thing-to-a-run-that-was-still-a-walk right towards my waiting horse! And here it is…

For the record, I don’t think any of the mini-princesses were even aware of Cinderella’s horse–let’s hear it for Disney’s hidden treasures! No one seemed to mind me getting on. In reality it’s just the number of people trying to get on the Carrousel, rather than any sort of competition over the actual horse. If you see a small line for Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, that’s the time to go for it!

While riding, I felt the need to document my moment of Carrousel greatness. Unfortunately, I was by myself, so the best I was able to capture was this:

Awesome ;). Ah, well… I guess you can’t have it all! This came pretty close, though :).

“Have faith in your dreams and someday
Your rainbow will come smiling through
No matter how your heart is grieving,
If you keep on believing
The dream that you wish will come true.”

Interesting note from our trip in 2011: we were able to find her horse with no problem and my DD got right on (like you said, it’s as if no one knows about this hidden treasure). Later when DD met Cinderella and told her she had ridden her horse, Cinderella exclaimed “Oh, you rode Major?! He’s a very special horse!” I had no idea he had a name!

    • Oh, my goodness, that IS great :)! Thanks so much for sharing Major’s name here–another one of those awesome Disney details. Thanks also for reading! I appreciate it :)!
